This site is developed by Cathy (Carter) Shide, consultant, to help districts better math instruction. The focus is creating coherent math instruction that makes sense to students. I haven't updated or posted for a long time, busy working with students and teachers in diverse communities. We have learned quite a bit about teaching mathematics! If you have questions, or the links do not work, please e-mail me at cathy.integrated@bluetie.com.

Updates - Illinois is working on their own state assessment, still PARCC questions with rigor. Their goals are to move to an adapted test but I love this video about the pressure of testing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TstkHB-f8LI

Lets work together to help all students understand math to their best ability, making math useful and interesting.

Remember, tests are given in grade 3-high school for reading and mathematics and give one picture, not the whole picture, of where a student is on their learning path. http://www.greatschools.org/gk/common-core-test-guide/

Most districts and schools want to know how to raise achievement scores. How do we do that? Working together as a district, school, and grade level teams is what it takes! We work on teaching math understanding and assessing the standards in our own classrooms. The district that work on teaching and learning, focusing on the students, are districts that increase learning!
